44th Annual C.T.Lowndes and Company Sertoma Football Classic Kicks Off High School Football Season

For the past 43 years, high schools from around the Lowcountry have come together to kick off football season at the Sertoma Football Classic. This year’s event, once again sponsored by C.T. Lowndes and Company, will be Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd at The Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Stadium.

This annual tradition not only signals the beginning of high school football in the Lowcountry, but also assists local nonprofits to continue their missions with 100% of the proceeds going to local charities and schools.

Windwood Family Services, Eagle Harbor Ranch, Trinitas Foundation, Camp Happy Days, Boy Scouts of America, Ronald McDonald House, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, West Ashley JROTC, SCHSL, participating schools and other charities were all recipients of last year’s Sertoma Football Classic. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased from participating high school cheerleading teams or at the games. Gates open at 4:00 p.m., with the program starting at 5:00 p.m.

During the Sertoma Football Classic, there will be a $5.00 parking fee for all lots, including The Holiday Alumni Center Lot, Stoney Field Lot, Altman Center Lot and MUSC Lot.

Tickets for the 2014 Sertoma Football Classic will also be available the day of the Sertoma Classic at the gates. Although the entertainment and excitement of the game usually takes the spotlight, the importance of the game is continue the giving mission of the Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind) Club of Charleston. Three local nonprofits are the main beneficiaries from the ticket sales:

Windwood Farm Family Services provides help, hope, and healing through behavioral, educational and therapeutic interventions that enhance social functioning and well-being for children and their families. Well known for their residential group living campus - Windwood Farm Home for Children in Awendaw - they also offer an outpatient and community based prevention services clinic in Mount Pleasant.

Eagle Harbor Ranch, located in Summerville, is a place of refuge and shelter for children ages 4 to 21 who are orphaned, neglected, abused and abandoned. It is their desire to empower each child to rise above their past through love, structure and an opportunity to succeed in life.

Trinitas Foundation creates an atmosphere which will enrich individuals and families through community involvement and the fostering of good moral values. Located in downtown Charleston, Trinitas is run by Rev. Herman R. Robinson, III.
