Tis' the Season to Help

The cold weather in the Lowcountry has really put me into the Christmas spirit. It's such a great time to spend with family and friends. But for all of us who are enjoying warm meals and warm nights, there's plenty in the Lowcountry that aren't so lucky. I know that Crisis Ministries is seeing a huge influx of folks who really just want a warm place to sleep. They even have a cold weather fund to help raise money to feed and keep everyone warm. Sometimes, it's hard to find gifts for those hard to please people and this would be a great gift...donate in their name. We do it every year, for different nonprofits each year. So if you are still scratching your head on gifts, give the gift of warmth and donate to www.charlestonhomeless.org.

We can't forget about our furry friends fighting the temperatures too. This is not the time of year to leave Fido outside, I'm a big believer that animals are part of the family, so please bring them in! Local rescues like Daisy's Place are seeing a large amount of unwanted animals and work hard to keep up with the demand. One sad story on their Facebook page, of this cute face

"Daisy's Place has been asked to take a 14 year old Lab because his family no longer has time for him. They are having another baby and want him out asap. We don't want to put him in boarding but we are full and juggling Daisy Dogs - 3 more came into rescue yesterday! We pay all ...expenses, if you have room in your heart and home for this old soul, please contact us."

With my pooch, Fletch approaching 11 years old, it's hard for me to look at any animal that has been with a family for 14 years need a new home. But thanks to the outpouring of support, he will definitely find a home!

There are so many worthy charities and nonprofits that work hard to keep our community going and we have to tip our hat to them! The best part about it all is that we all have our own interests and that's what makes us great Americans...our ability to help others. So I hope you have a great Christmas and thank you for giving a piece of yourself to the Lowcountry. Merry Christmas!

Ryan
