First Round of Hurricane Relief Supplies head to Hope Town/Firefly Sunset Resort

Image
Firefly Sunset Resort in Hope Town, Elbow Cay, Abaco is locally owned by Jim and Ann Irvin (previous owners of Irvin-House Vineyards and current co-owners of Firefly Distillery). Their resort was obliterated by Hurricane Dorian as their cay, Elbow Cay, was the first place where Dorian made landfall. Many from the Charleston area visit the resort regularly and it holds close ties to the Charleston community. This resort also employs many Bahamians in that area. The Irvin family along with their children Jay and Kimberly MacMurphy (wife) coordinated a list of supplies needed and local residents signed up for specific items--at Red Drum on 9/10/2019. Donations range in variety of 30lb bags of lentils to fix-a-flats to dog food to specialized security lights suggested by local nonprofit Water Missions International. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f48acae2fa64-firefly The first donation round up was a success. Special thanks to Red Drum for offering up their location. Stay tuned ...

Goodbye to a Vibrant Soul - Dottie Frank

The Lowcountry lost one of our most amazing authors and my absolutely favorite persons, Dorothea Benton Frank aka Dottie/Dot Frank. A New York Times Best Selling Author,  her books kept me in love with my hometown while I lived in Colorado. I was lucky enough to know her and it breaks my heart that she is gone. Here's what I wrote on Facebook when I heard the news. Hope to see so many of those that loved her at the memorial. Photo:  https://bermudaonion.net/ Ryan Nelson Goldwater September 3 at 6:07 PM ·  As I write this, I hope that Dottie DB Frank Dorothea Benton Frank is looking over my shoulder (and so many other of us who are posting something like this right now) and feeling no pain. I'm not happy that she's gone AT ALL, but she was the embodiment of the Lowcountry. Sending love and light to her family. She was so happy to be a mom and grandmom. Her love for her family and readers was unique. Dottie, thank you for being you. Thank you for your raspy...

Dorian's wrath on Firefly Sunset Resort in Abaco

Image
Saying a prayer for Firefly Sunset Resort in Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas. We've been lucky enough to work with them for almost a decade. Sadly, Hurricane Dorian made landfall on the small paradise Elbow Cay, the home of Firefly Sunset Resort. The hurricane was so damaging for Abaco and Grand Bahama, but we know how strong those residents are and they will rebuild. To donate, visit the GoFundMe created by Patrick Davis called Hope 4 Hope Town.

Happy Labor Day from Nelwater
