Bringing the spirit of Aloha to the Holy City, Maui Tacos is now open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 200 Meeting Street #2 in downtown Charleston. Maui Tacos Charleston proudly serves Maui-Mex fare, a fresh fusion of the bold tastes of Mexico paired with the exotic tastes of Hawaii in a fast and casual dining atmosphere. Maui Tacos Charleston is hosting at Grand Opening Celebration on Thursday, January 17th from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with live Hawaiian music, hula dancers from Pu’uwai Ho’ano ‘o Leikela Hula Group, giveaways, tastings and specials such as three dollar ($3.00) tacos, frozen margaritas and draft beers. This event is family-friendly and kids are welcome.
Maui Tacos Charleston is locally owned and operated by a Charleston native with an extensive background in Charleston’s restaurant scene, Mike Seltzer, and wife, Jennifer Seltzer, a College of Charleston graduate who successfully headed a thriving family concrete company in Ohio. The concrete company was purchased by a larger corporation. After dealing with the sale, the Seltzer’s decided to move back to Charleston with a mission to create a company that appreciates a true customer service experience and an environment that takes care of their employees like Ohana (a Hawaiian term that is the extended sense of family that includes blood-related, adoptive, international, etc.)  The Aloha style service means saying “no worries” to problems and making them right.
This Maui Tacos location was the first franchise location on the U.S. Mainland, with the Nevada location recently opening its doors. Maui Tacos is a staple in Hawaii and is rated one of the Top Mexican Restaurants in the Country by ZAGAT.
Maui Tacos combines a hip, fast, casual yet fresh dining experience with delicious food, exceptional service, and the spirit of Aloha. Indulge in the never-ending free salsa bar filled with exotic and tried-and-true salsas\ Quench your thirst with one of the homemade Aqua Frescas in a variety of flavors, or relax with a beer, wine, margaritas and other Island cocktails. Maui Tacos is “A Vacation You Can Eat” with options like fresh fish tacos, Rainbow Mango Salads, Hawaiian BBQ pork, chicken enchiladas, pineapple salsa, Rancheras, Lomi Lomi, Surf Burritos and more.
With a wide variety of vegetarian and healthy options, Maui Tacos aims to keep you full but not weighed down for the day’s activities. Originally crafted for surfers, the menu is food for the active person…and in today’s busy world, that applies to almost everyone.
“While in Maui, we fell in love with the concept and we knew it would fit well in the Charleston food scene.” says Jennifer Seltzer, owner. “As parents, we know it’s not always easy to find fresh, made-to-order food in a fast, casual dining atmosphere that is kid-friendly. And as College of Charleston graduates, we understand that dining on a budget is a must. The restaurant is built so large parties and groups can enjoy the space, whether it be families, business groups, students or gatherings, we can accommodate them all.”
