New Non-surgical Laser Treatment Saving Women’s Sex Lives

Do you feel dry as a desert? Is your partner starting to notice you can’t have sex because it’s painful? Are you a woman wishing there was something similar to the “little blue pill” to save your sex life? Thanks to the new FDA-approved vaginal regeneration laser, the MonaLisa Touch, now there is. And it’s only available at Palmetto Women’s Health, the practice of OB/GYN Dr. Loren Frankel.

This non-surgical, non-hormonal laser treatment starts the production of new collagen and tissue regeneration in the vagina. The mucosa tissue thus becomes more nourished and hydrated and the epithelium becomes thicker, more toned (vaginal tightening) and elastic. It also reestablishes the correct vaginal pH, which helps maintain its natural protective barrier and reduces the risk of infection. Patients see significant improvements even after the first treatment.

With nearly 46 million women between the ages of 50 to 80 and over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, this is welcomed news. Even Dr. Frankel’s local patients are raving on her Facebook page, Belinda C says “Love it!!! Quick and painless. No down time. Highly recommended!!” and Deb A. writes “Wonderful! Singing MonaLisa’s praises!”.

More than 40 percent of menopausal and post-menopausal women are affected by vaginal atrophy, also known as atrophic vaginitis, which causes numerous issues including pain with intercourse, pain with urination and incontinence leaving many women to suffer in silence.

The MonaLisa Touch consists of a series of three sessions performed over the course of 12-16 weeks in an office environment without the need for anesthesia and without pain or side effects. Many women report symptom relief after the first treatment and even greater improvement after the second and third treatments. And their partners notice a difference too.

The Mona Lisa Touch treatment may also benefit patients with a past history, or strong family history of breast cancer who may have previously been advised against using HRT and until now, have had no effective treatment for their symptoms of vaginal atrophy. Around 60 percent of breast cancer sufferers can be affected by vaginal atrophy.

“Vaginal wetness keeps tissues healthy and serves as a line of defense against infections and STDs. I see many vaginal health issues in my post-menopausal patients, breast cancer survivors and women who have had a hysterectomy.” says Dr. Loren Frankel, OB/GYN and founder of Palmetto Women’s Health. “This procedure is done in house with a thin-dot laser that helps create healthier tissue with no downtime. It’s been something women have been asking for decades.”
