Irvin~House Vineyards and Firefly Distillery compete in Intuit Small Business Big Game


Going for a touchdown! Two local tourist destinations, Irvin~House Vineyards and Firefly Distillery are in the running for the exposure of a lifetime as they have been chosen for round two of the Intuit Small Business Big Game Contest. The reward: a national commercial to air during the third quarter of the the biggest football game of the year! 



Now that voting has been closed to the public, Intuit will pick the top 20 companies, using their number of votes, financial stability, creativity and how they represent the Intuit brand. Four finalists will be announced in November and each will receive a professionally produced national commercial. Voters will then choose their favorite business and the grand prize winner will be announced in December. Intuit will provide the budget to produce the ad. Intuit is the maker of QuickBooks and other business products.




Firefly Distillery and Irvin~House Vineyards teamed up with local producer Ryan Nelson of Nelwater Consulting and videographer Jason Bennett of Docent Prodigy to complete the 90 second videos for the contest.

Farewell to Dean Stephens of WCIV-TV

  Working in local TV news was something I wanted to do since I was a child...ask my parents, I would stage interviews and anchor from the couch in our ranch-style home when we had smooth wood hugging the TV and its 4 channels. ABC, NBC, CBS & PBS during the 1980s. My dad is a news lover and from a young age, I always watched news. Most parents in today's world would say "She's too young. You can't expose kids to that!" But when did a Nelson truly listen to other people? I grew up watching Charleston TV news. I idolized local reporters during Hurricane Hugo like Cathy O'Hara, had a crush on Dan Krosse and was even scared to walk up to Kellen Butler when we were both at the Music Farm.
