Blessing of the Vine at Irvin~House Vineyard




It’s a blessing for all wine lovers at Charleston’s only vineyards and winery, Irvin~House Vineyard at the 8th Annual Blessing of the Vine Festival on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.. The public will get their chance to witness the blessing of muscadine grapevines by a priest, enjoy live music from The Hawkes, food and drink all while admiring the charming setting of Irvin~House Vineyard. The event is open to the public, admission is $5.00 per car. The Blessing ceremony will start promptly at 2 p.m.

Located at 6775 Bears Bluff Road on Wadmalaw Island, the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to picnic on the expansive lawn. Wine and food will be available for purchase. Burger lovers will enjoy the 2nd annual "Battle of the Burger" Cookoff Contest, where one lucky burger recipe will win $500.00 in cash and prizes. Judges include Father Greg Snyder from St. John’s Episcopal Church, Chef Fred Neuville from Fat Hen and Ryan Nelson. Limited spaces are still available to submit your burger recipe. Farewell to Dean Stephens of WCIV-TV

  Working in local TV news was something I wanted to do since I was a child...ask my parents, I would stage interviews and anchor from the couch in our ranch-style home when we had smooth wood hugging the TV and its 4 channels. ABC, NBC, CBS & PBS during the 1980s. My dad is a news lover and from a young age, I always watched news. Most parents in today's world would say "She's too young. You can't expose kids to that!" But when did a Nelson truly listen to other people? I grew up watching Charleston TV news. I idolized local reporters during Hurricane Hugo like Cathy O'Hara, had a crush on Dan Krosse and was even scared to walk up to Kellen Butler when we were both at the Music Farm.
